Are you a fast learner?

I recently got a message from a student of mine. She had taken my Stitch Sampler Class last November, and by this month, had used what she learned to create an award winning fiber art piece! Here's her note:

Hi Bonnie,

I took your class some months ago in Ft. Myers and recently entered the Needlework Division of the Sanibel-Captiva Shell Show. Happily, I received two awards -- first place in needlework and a plaque for Best Show Related Exhibit in the Hobbyist category. I used the techniques you taught us to bring my appliqued piece to life. Thought you would enjoy seeing a couple pictures.

Best wishes,

Marge Gammon

If you feel you need practice, I recommend buying a printed fabric with shaded images. Use a variety of colors of thread to enhance the shading and dimension by free-motion stitching over the picture. You'll be surprised by how much you learn and how it brings the picture to life. Remember, use a (fine) bobbin thread in white or black so you don't have to change bobbin colors. It's so much fun!
