Classes

Below are descriptions of classes offered for large groups such as quilt guilds, shows, or quilt shops. In addition to the class fees, I can supply stabilizer, fabrics, and specialty items for a small fee. If you wish to hire me for individual instruction, please contact me for more detail.   Group classes are currently $650 per day and are generally limited to 20 students. Individual instruction varies from $25-35 an hour. Instruction is also available at my home, $50 per person per day.

For all classes, students must be comfortable with dropping their machine’s feed dogs and using a free-motion or darning foot. All classes are done in raw edge applique and thread sketching.

We will work according to samples provided by the instructor to make realistic rocks, trees, grasses, flowers, water and more and assemble them into a handy reference booklet. All levels.

*    A half day class is available for learning trees only.

Using the instructor’s photo, you will be guided step-by-step through the art basics, the best fabric choices, the stitching techniques and other little tricks to make it look real. Some pattern pieces are provided. This is great prep for using your own pictures.

Make Your Own Fabric Landscape

This class is similar to ‘From Photo to Fabric Landscape’ but you use your own pictures! You will be guided through the art principles, fabric choices, and stitching techniques for which my realistic work is known. The first session is informational, including which fabrics to choose. You work on making design and layout decisions based on information I’ve given you. No machine is needed until the second class. In the second class you get help with fabric choice and positioning, and then sewing begins! The third class focuses on what YOU need. Lots of individual attention and fun is always included.

Intermediate Level. Class runs 9-12 hours usually spread over 3 sessions. In a workshop setting, it is finishable in 4 days.

No kit provided.

Old World Window

Do you love windows? This is for you. You will learn how to make a window look set in to the wall, how to make the shutters, the mullions, and the wall have dimension and texture-all with raw edge applique and thread painting.  Additionally, you’ll learn

an easy way to make shadows, curtains and a reflection in the window. The finishing touch is a lush flower box.

There is a kit fee for fabrics and special materials you will need.

One day, and it’s ready to frame. You’ll want to make tons of these!

One day. All levels. 8x10”  Kit fee $25

Melting Felt

Can you believe it? Synthetic felt can be melted with a heat gun to create fabulous textures and 3D objects. Add it to your quilt or landscape or any fabric project. It can be colored, glued or sewn. This class teaches techniques and allows for your experimentation.

One day.

No kit fee.

A craft heat gun, sewing machine and synthetic felt are needed. A half face respirator is recommended, not a paper mask.
